Description | The Reko Diq project is one of the largest undeveloped copper and gold deposits in the world located in Pakistan. The project involves mining and development activities for gold and copper extraction. The European Investment Bank has shown interest in financing enabling infrastructure for the project and seeking a share in the off take of critical minerals. The project has faced some setbacks due to security risks and uncertainties, with Barrick Gold slowing development activities and reviewing the project until mid 2027. The first phase of the project is estimated to cost between $5.6 billion and $6 billion, with an additional $3.3 billion to $3.6 billion for the second phase. First production is targeted by the end of 2028, though timelines may shift. |
