Description
Description | More than 70 years after the end of WWII, divisions still exist between EU Member States on historical and cultural issues. To address this and to preserve and disseminate the memory of the Holocaust as a common European history and a living legacy, the Shoah Memorial seeks to reach out to all audiences through a variety of targeted programmes and actions. Through its national and European action, the Memorial aims to have long-term positive impacts on society, reducing antisemitism, racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance, promoting instead fundamental values of the EU, and contributing to strengthening the sense of European identity and belonging. For the year 2022, this objective will be achieved by: - Boosting on site activities further to the Covid crisis, e.g. increasing the visits of the places of remembrance and of the Memorial. - Increasing the Memorial’s pedagogical and cultural offer at national and EU level through new temporary, permanent and travelling exhibitions, by creating 2 new temporary and 1 permanent exhibitions, and increasing the number of European countries covered. - Enhancing transnational partnerships in the field of remembrance, training and knowledge, such as the Generation Forum on Remembrance, agreements with archives institutions and national authorities across Europe. - Developing an exhaustive online offer on all the Memorial’s activities, making all conferences and knowledge exchanges available to the general public and professionals. In doing so, the Memorial will intensify its contribution to the outreach of the European legacy on remembrance education and to the promotion of European values and respect for the rule of law. It will allow valuing the lessons of the past and creating dialogue throughout Europe, in order to highlight the role played by discrimination and persecution policies in mass crimes, and enhance civic responsibilities for avoiding their emergence and fundamental values which the EU is found |
