Remember and Educate: a European Legacy

More than 70 years after the end of WWII, divisions still exist between EU Member States on historical and cultural issues. To address this and to preserve and disseminate the memory of the Holocaust as a common European history and a living legacy, the Shoah Memorial seeks to reach out to all audiences through a variety of targeted programmes and actions. Through its action, the Memorial aims for the period 2022-2025 to have long-term positive impacts on society, reducing antisemitism, racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance, promoting instead fundamental values of the EU, and contributing to strengthening the sense of European identity and belonging. This objective will be achieved by: - Increasing the Memorial's national presence through various memorial sites, in order to reach more French, European and international visitors; - Expanding the scope of its training and education activities in France and Europe with professionals and children, to improve understanding of the causes and impacts of intolerance in all its forms; - Strengthening the digital content on the websites of the Memorial and its partners, and communication on social networks, in continuation of the movement started since the emergence of the Covid; - Extending the scope of the Memorial to all genocides, in order to acquire a more transversal scope of the message of tolerance transmitted; - Developing networks of remembrance in France and in Europe, allowing the creation of partnerships to transmit a common message to every citizen; - Strengthening archives and testimonies on the Holocaust and its survivors, so as to ensure the mission of memory in and for the future. In doing so, the Memorial seeks to value the lessons of the past and to create dialogue throughout Europe, in order to highlight the role played by discrimination and persecution policies in of mass crimes, civic responsibilities for avoiding their emergence and fundamental values which the EU is founded upon.
