Description
Description | The READ Project is a transformative initiative aimed at bridging the gap between renewable energy education, research, and industry needs in Sub-Saharan Africa. As the region grapples with severe energy deficits, rapid population growth, and climate change challenges, investing in renewable energy education is critical to ensuring a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient energy transition. The project brings together leading Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), research centres, and industry partners to develop specialized curricula, foster innovation, and enhance workforce capacity in the renewable energy sector. A key focus of the project is developing structured, industry-aligned training programs that equip students, faculty, and entrepreneurs with technical, policy, and business skills in clean energy. By strengthening university research capabilities, the project ensures that HEIs contribute to evidence-based decision-making and policy development in the energy sector. Additionally, it provides faculty training and institutional support to improve teaching methodologies, curriculum delivery, and interdisciplinary collaboration in renewable energy education. The READ Project directly supports international priorities like the EU Green Deal, the Global Gateway strategy, Agenda 2063, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It recognizes that Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) must play a leading role in Africa’s clean energy transition. This project seeks to address energy poverty and foster rural development in Sub-Saharan Africa by promoting clean and renewable energy adoption through capacity-building initiatives. The project emphasizes enhancing higher education systems, fostering community-driven renewable energy projects, and developing green entrepreneurship opportunities. By integrating gender equity and innovative financing models, the project will deliver sustainable solutions to energy challenges in Somalia, Mozambique, and Tanzania. |
