The Renewable Energy Programme - Small IPP Support Program aims to introduce small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from South Africa to the rapidly growing market for renewable energies (RE) and, to a lesser extent, for energy efficiency (RE), and thereby sustainably anchor the growth of the RE and RE market in the local economy. This is to be achieved by mobilizing additional private capital for the financing of small RE and innovative RE projects via the FIRST facility. In addition, the use of renewable energy sources in South Africa is to be further increased by supporting small projects and thus contribute to achieving South Africa's climate goals through CO2 savings (investment facility). This is Phase III of the program of the same name (Phase I BMZ No. 2010 66 620, Phase II BMZ No. 2015 69 169). In parallel with the investment facility, a Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) was set up (BMZ No. 2014 70 459), through which various consulting services can be provided to support project developers, who are mostly inexperienced in the RE and EE sector, in preparing their small RE and EE projects and to reduce the high transaction costs for the review and structuring of the projects caused by the small-scale nature of the projects.
