Peaks Renewables, a subsidiary of Summit Utilities, is investing about $20 million in a renewable natural gas initiative involving the construction of an anaerobic digester in Clinton, Maine. The project partners with local dairy farms to convert manure into renewable natural gas, which is then cleaned and injected into the existing natural gas pipeline system for residential and commercial use. The facility processes manure to produce biogas, reducing methane emissions and carbon footprint, while also producing liquid fertilizer and solid bedding as byproducts for the farms.
