Description
Description | The Federal Government's new agricultural financing programme aims to increase Nigeria's annual grain output from 11 million tonnes to 25 million tonnes. Implemented by the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), the programme provides subsidised fertilisers, certified hybrid seeds, and other essential inputs to smallholder farmers through a single-digit interest financing arrangement. The pilot phase involves 20 selected farm aggregators supporting about 500,000 farmers, with plans to expand to 2 million farmers next year and 5 million farmers nationwide eventually. The initiative also includes irrigation financing to enable year-round farming and improve farmers' incomes. |
