RENFORCTEMENT DES CAPACITES ENVIRONEMENT

The Gafsa Phosphates Company (GPC) capacity building project for environmental protection and phosphate mining is part of Tunisia's tenth development plan covering the period 2002- 2006 which assigns to the phosphate mining industry an annual export growth target of 6%, better integration and increased efficiency while ensuring environmental protection in the mining basin. The project was conceived in 2005 in a favorable international context of the phosphates and derivatives market, characterized by sustained demand and rising prices. The main activities concern the preparation of DAOs and the launching of tenders for the construction of spraying and storage basins in each of the three mines that collect waste (Redeyef, Kef Eddour and Séhib), the purchase of quarry equipment, subassemblies and spare parts, the launch of a consultation for the recruitment of an environmental protection technical assistance and a consulting firm for the realization of a strategic organizational study of the CPG. The project cost was stopped at UA 38.25 million. Its execution is planned over 3 years.
