Description

Description

The project involves renovation and enhancement of all interior and some exterior (building facade and planting) of an aging community space that serves residents of downtown East Toronto and Regent Park. The renovations and rehabilitation will include an expanded community kitchen, meeting space for employment / housing / settlement services client support, computer technology / media lab, general programming space, and essential, small-scale, structural improvements that will enable more comprehensive client support and improved client service outcomes. The project scope includes the demolition and replacement of doors and windows that have exceeded their lifespan, a failing flat roof and a failed heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The work also includes demolition and construction of new walls and ceilings, electrical systems, plumbing, lighting and flooring, construction of a new kitchen / dining area, activity / community gathering space, and computer technology lab. The project will enable continued community services programming for an average 3,000 individuals / year which includes seniors and parents of at-risk youth in Regent Park, additional employment-based programming, and provide for an increase in the number of homeless or precariously-housed individuals served in the space. The project supports the “Improved access to and increased quality of community, cultural and recreational infrastructure for Canadians, including Indigenous Peoples and vulnerable populations” outcome under the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream.
