67 percent of Network Rail suppliers have signed up to the Science Based Targets initiative to reduce their carbon footprint. By 2025, three-quarters of suppliers should have set targets to reduce emissions in line with the goal to be carbon neutral by 2050. Network Rail aims to be carbon neutral by 2045 in Scotland and by 2050 in the rest of Britain. The majority of the emissions are within ‘scope three’, meaning emissions largely come from third parties, including suppliers.
