Description | The city was awarded a WSDOT Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant for design and construction for pedestrian safety improvements at Sierra Heights Elementary, Maplewood Heights Elementary, and McKnight Middle School in 2019. Project scope includes upgraded crosswalk markings, ADA curb ramps, widened sidewalks and bulb-outs, and rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) systems with push buttons. The design of this project was completed in 2020. Purpose To improve pedestrian safety for three school crossings referenced above. Status/Changes The construction began on April 20, 2021. The contract time for this project was 48 working days. The construction was substantially completed as of August 31, 2021.
