Replace an existing vehicle, expand fleet and increase accessibility

With the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund we intend to replace an existing vehicle with an 18 passenger accessible vehicle. The vehicle being replaced, a 16 passenger accessible bus, would then become a backup vehicle. Deseronto Transit operates 2 routes with a fleet that is 50% accessible. Our fleet consists of 2 buses and 2 vans. When one of our buses needs maintenance we operate 2 vans to accommodate passengers. The vans are not wheelchair accessible. Having a backup vehicle will enhance and increase our capacity. It will improve accessibility for those with mobility restrictions and increase the capacity we are currently able to provide. There would be minimal potential environmental improvements through increased capacity and improved accessibility so we have not listed this as a project objective. Deseronto Transit does ear mark Provincial Gas Tax Funds each year for vehicle replacement but accumulated reserves at present will need be used to purchase ITS/AVL equipment mandated by the ISAR legislation.
