Description

Description

Standards offer considerable benefits to SMEs. They can help to comply with legal requirements, support the adoption of new technologies and open up markets. However, to achieve these benefits, it is essential that standards meet SME needs; otherwise, they may create obstacles rather than support the competitiveness of SMEs. To address the above-mentioned challenges, the main objectives of the action are: • To improve the representation of SMEs in European and international standardisation and ensure standards fit SME needs through the participation in Technical Committees and the governing and policy bodies of the European Standards Organisations. Special focus will be given to the topics identified in the 2024 Annual Union WP for European Standardisation. The project also aims at strengthening the relationship between national SME associations and their National Standards to facilitate SME access and participation at both European and international levels. Special focus will also be given to building stronger relations with the international standards bodies. • To increase awareness and a better understanding regarding the role, importance and impact of standards among SMEs through various actions, events and trainings. • To disseminate information about standards and standardisation developments, and support the uptake of standards among SMEs, especially in areas of strategic importance. • To bring the SME perspective to European policies and regulations, e.g., the evaluation and possible revision of Regulation 1025/2012 on European Standardisation, and support the implementation of the Standardisation Strategy through the work of the High-Level Forum on European Standardisation. SBS will also contribute to EU initiatives in areas such as the new Eco-design Regulation or the AI and the Cyber Resilience Acts.
