Description
Description | The project contributes to improving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) in the ECOWAS economic area. The aim is to improve regional political and programmatic cooperation in the field of SRH. The project's program sponsor is ECOWAS, represented by the regional health organization WAHO (West African Health Organization). The program essentially consists of a regional financing mechanism with two components (i) procurement of SRH products based on the unmet needs reported by the countries and (ii) education and awareness-raising measures among the population as well as capacity-building measures among the actors. The goals are improved access to modern contraceptive methods, raising awareness of the problem, and education and behavioral change among the target group. The importance and effectiveness of SRH policies are to be improved through improved access to SRH products, strengthening the regional health organization WAHO and structurally influencing and coordinating national policies. The project therefore contributes to reducing population growth, lowering maternal and child mortality in the region and strengthening HIV prevention. The target group of the project continues to be the population in the ECOWAS region, in particular the sexually active, predominantly poorer population with a focus on women and young people as well as mobile, migrant population groups. |
