Description
Description | Universities and hospitals in Öresund join forces to solve five global fertility challenges. The project has three previous Interreg projects as a forerunner and the partnership considers itself to have found a functioning, border-regional cooperation structure between clinic and academia. Involuntary childlessness affects between 15 and 20 percent of all couples. Thus, infertility is as common as diabetes, says the project. In the future, more people will suffer from infertility due, for example, to age, lifestyle and environmental impacts. The project aims to work with five global fertility challenges that are patient-oriented and have great societal benefits if solved: Improvement of male fertility: Increase understanding of how lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors affect male fertility with the aim of developing specialised treatment methods and preventive interventions. Optimisation of reproductive treatment of infertile couples: Develop new cheaper and more effective assisted fertilisation techniques to reduce the cost of society and reduce the pressure that women are exposed to in vitro fertilisation. Preserved ovary function: Reduce the negative impact of diseases and treatments on fertility through increased knowledge about the function of the ovary. Prevention of infertility-related morbidity: Examine how infertility can act as an early marker for the most common diseases that could be prevented by early prevention. Prevention of awareness-raising to support family formation and prevention of reproductive diseases: Increase information in society on how lifestyle factors affect the reproductive ability and ability to start a family; information that is important to be taken into account in relation to political decisions and the work of public authorities in order to minimise negative societal impacts. |
