The aim is to demonstrate the interest in rehabilitating the South Geneva rail link, in order to restore the continuity of the railway infrastructure between Geneva and Sion, which will allow the extension of the offer of the Geneva Express (the cross-border RER of Greater Geneva) in the second stage 2019. Since 2011, Swiss and French partners (AURA, CCPEVA and SIAC and SNCF, canton of Valais and Chablais Région) have carried out a preliminary study, which has helped to unite all bodies around the solution that best meets the expectations of the partners. With support and EU funding Interreg V, a new series of pre-operational studies was completed at the end of December 2017. The characteristics related to this reopening have been refined across all relevantareas to be carried out between 2018 and 2020, and will focus on a detailed analysis of the measures necessary for the reactivation of this line. Recall that this line will have to be brought into line with the standards and requirements of the 21st century.A component of socio-economic studies will be conducted, in order to understand the impact of this reopening according to the locations of the stops identified and estimate the socio-economic impact for the territory which will thus be served again by rail.
