Description

Description

This opportunity provides Federal financial assistance to determine presence and prevalence of the phorid fly species, virus types, and microsporidian that are biological controls of red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) and to assess the ant community at representative sites within the Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge. This opportunity will aid in the recovery of the critically endangered Attwaters prairie chicken. The purpose of the Endangered Species Act is to provide a means by which the ecosystems upon which endangered and threatened species depend may be conserved, to provide a program for the conservation of these species, and to take appropriate steps to achieve the purposes of treaties and conventions set forth in the law. This opportunity is limited to projects carrying out actions described in the species' approved recovery plan, in the implementation schedule of the species' approved recovery plan, and actions recommended in completed 5 year status review of the species. Authorizing statues include Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, as amended, 16 U.S.C. (742f (a)(4); Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, as amended, 16 U.S.C. 661.; Fish and Wildlife Improvement Act of 1978, as amended (16 U.S.C. 753), Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965, as amended (16 U.S.C. 4601 4 through 11), Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1531 to 1543).
