Research on Agricultural Waste Recycling and Carbon Accounting Strategy in Hubei Province

The technical assistance (TA) will support the development of a model for agricultural waste recycling and summarize the methods and strategies of agricultural waste treatment and utilization that are suitable for People's Republic of China (PRC). The TA will conduct comprehensive research which will entail an assessment and evaluation of the sources, components, quantities, and current treatment methods of agricultural waste in Hubei Province. The TA will (i) identify institutional and policy constraints for effective agricultural waste recycling; and (ii) develop carbon accounting methods for the recycling and utilization of agricultural waste. First-hand data will be obtained on agricultural waste treatment to provide a scientific basis for effective agricultural waste recycling strategies and subsequent policy formulation and resource allocation. The TA will also promote the development of agriculture in the province towards a greener, low-carbon, and sustainable development, contributing to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals in Hubei as well as the entire country.
