Residential Water Service Valve Replacement program

The Water Service Valve Replacement Program would include the replacement of the old 25mm inverted style service valve with new No Lead Ball Valves. These valves are primarily located in one area of town and due to the construction and size of the valve, have seized and become inoperable. There are approximately 200 of these valves in our system. In addition to the valves the project would include replacement of the valve connection rod which corrodes at the connection point to the valve. With today’s technology, this work can be performed from the surface with a minimal size hole and by use of Hydro-Excavation. It is unknown how many valve rods have failed but it could be as many as 500 from our 26,000 serviced properties. Project would include retaining a specialized contractor to inspect and replace failing water service valves that are owned and operated by the Town of Newmarket and connect residents to the drinking water distribution system. Aligns with asset management, enhanced customer service, risk management. Supports Council strategy and vision of ensuring effective and efficient services, supporting innovative projects and partnerships and efficient management of capital assets and municipal services to meet existing and future operational demands. This project is required to ensure the Town has the ability to isolate residential water services, which are owned and operated by the Town, to perform emergency isolations, maintenance, repairs and replacement of water meters and other residential related activities that require the water to be shut off.
