Description | Rio Tinto has secured control of land required for the Resolution Copper project in Arizona through a land swap with the US Forest Service. The project is expected to be one of the largest sources of copper in the US, with over 40 billion pounds of copper believed to be hosted on the 2,400 acres acquired. Rio Tinto plans to proceed with a US$500 million drilling program to assess parts of the deposit that were previously inaccessible, a necessary step before determining construction timelines and production forecasts. The project is owned 55% by Rio Tinto and 45% by BHP and has attracted over US$2 billion in investment so far. It aims to supply more than a quarter of US copper demand over its life, supporting domestic supply chains for critical minerals. |
