Description

Re:Sound Design Measures is a project targeting the design of an MA programme in Sound Design in the Media Arts that expands beyond traditional modes of film sound education. Re:Sound goes beyond the screen to emancipate sound as a fully-fledged discipline and point-of-departure, addressing the broader relationship between sound and image, from traditional modes to immersive and interactive experiences, and further implies sound epistemology as much as technical processes. Re:Sound positions itself as an active bridge between the various creative industries of Europe due to the ubiquitous nature of sound. While visual studies frequently monopolise arts academics and our conscious relationship to our environments, sound studies offer a unique inquiry into the multisensorial nature of the arts and the human condition. From cinema arts to the home environment, from stage to performance art, from discotheque to village square, from house of worship to cherished natural spaces - sound culture is multidimensional, ever-present and dynamic, producing substantial alterations in the way in which we “hear” art and the world. We envision Re:Sound as a rethinking of sound in our lives, provisioning artists and researchers to heighten our awareness and engagement while opening vast possibilities for the evolution of sound in multiple arenas. Re:Sound will integrate the cultural, economic and social goals of Europe, thereby creating a cross-pollination of curricular and creative ideation and implementation that benefits learners, audiences and industry across regional boundaries. Our proposal is to be jointly delivered by the HEI’s involved in the European University Alliance, FilmEU and relevant non-educational partners. Re:Sound will play a significant role in delivering much-needed specialists for sound design and execution in the broadest sense of media arts; for film, television, immersive and virtual media, and new paradigms yet to emerge.
