Description
Description | Response_Able Futures is a two-year, joint master's programme in Design and Healthcare; created to tackle Europe's growing healthcare challenges: socioeconomic shifts, digital transformation, an ageing population, and a rising need for inclusive health services. It's the first EMJM programme of its kind focused on design and healthcare and engages three central themes: designing with care communities, for care communication, and caring systems, aiming to use design as a tool for social change. This multidisciplinary Masters (120 ECTs), is offered by lecturers from some of the most respected design and care research centres in Europe: the LUCA School of Arts (BE), the University of Aveiro (PT), and Sheffield Hallam University (UK). The programme features a unique blend of innovative pedagogy, cross-sector collaboration, context-led learning, meaningful mobility, international residencies, and visibility through the sharing of open-source learning material and public-facing events, all supported by a flexible curriculum and an engaged global network of experts and associated partners. Addressing multifaceted social challenges requires the skills to understand and unpack complex, uncertain care contexts. Students learn to approach healthcare challenges with empathy and critical thinking, gaining skills in participatory design, social entrepreneurship, innovative technologies, and system thinking, enhanced by service learning experiences and industry placements. Whether graduates end up as PhD candidates, employees in care organisations, working for NGOs in the Global South, leading equity-based startups within the creative techno-industries or policy advisors in Europe, Response_Able Futures creates a bridge between design and healthcare. It merges a student's personal ambition with that of a sense of responsible citizenry; resulting in graduates who will pioneer the agenda of inclusive healthcare design in Europe. |
