Revitalization of Skolt Sámi language and culture, pre-project

Education departments of Inari and Sor-Varanger municipalities have applied for project financing from Interreg Aurora programme for revitalizing Skolt Sámi language and culture. The status of the language and culture is critical in Norway and Finland, as described in official reports in both countries. Initiative to the project came from Sámi organisations and associations. During project a larger project is being planned in co-operation. Partnerships will include ca 10 organisations. Two public meetings will be arranged in the pre-project in order to listen to the ideas and expectations of Skolt Sámi people. The aim is to increase interest in Skolt Sámi culture and increased interest in language learning. The focus will be on "learning by doing" in cultural, practical and everyday context and on online connections, so that everybody interested in the culture and language is able to participate. All generations will be included in order to enable transfer of information.
