Description

Description

The EU wants to lead on the sustainability agenda both at home and worldwide. The engagement of local and regional governments (LRGs) is crucial to make it a reality in all European Territories. This is the role that CEMR has embraced, making the bridge between local and Europe’s ambitions, and between local and Europe’s action. Through shared history and common values, local and regional governments and the EU have to work hand in hand, understanding, supporting, empowering each other and widely engaging people. 2022 will be crucial to hear and start implementing the proposals coming from the people to revive Europe. As the closest level of governance to people, LRG will play a crucial role in all the many areas which affect their lives, especially after the outbreak of the COVID-19: environment, energy, climate; citizenship, integration, partnerships and twinning, gender equality and intersectionality; balanced territorial, urban, rural development, public services, digitalisation, EU economic governance, better regulation and decentralisation; localising global agenda. With around 110 expected outputs regrouped into 10 Tasks in this SGA, all our activities will respond to this challenge of making Europe closer to citizens and engaging them, but also bringing the voice of European territories to the EU institutions. It will materialise through information documents and events, through capacity-building workshops, knowledge sharing webinars and working groups as well as the production of publications and joint positions around key topics related to the EU and local competences, as well as pan-European campaigns to mobilise European territories and people across the EU. LRGs and their representative national associations, people, will benefit directly and indirectly from our action, and be empowered to inform and act at local and European levels with the adequate tools and policies.
