Description

Description

For its 2025 and 2026 editions, the Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) will continue to offer a wide selection of groundbreaking, independent European cinema, showcasing numerous European premieres. The festival's Grand Prix competition category, New Visions, focuses on first and second works by emerging filmmakers, providing a platform for young talents to present their visions to a transnational audience and build industry connections. The festival presents a diverse selection of drama and non-fiction films from over 60 countries, embracing all lengths and age groups. Our programming highlights films that are both entertaining and thought-provoking—cinema that sparks dialogue, fosters understanding, and contributes to a better society. RIFF aims to boost interest in independent cinema, enhance cinematic literacy, foster innovation, and enrich Iceland's film culture. The festival promotes collaboration within national and international film industries, focusing on audience development, sustainability, equality, inclusion, diversity, cooperation, and education. Beyond the main festival dates, RIFF extends its impact through a year-round program of events, workshops, and screenings, offering ongoing opportunities for engagement and education. These activities reinforce RIFF's mission to be a fountain of knowledge and maintain active involvement with audiences and industry professionals. The festival will continue strengthening its youth programs, impact strategies, and partnerships with schools and youth centers, as well as festival alliances locally and internationally. RIFF's Industry Days Program, Talent Lab, and Impact Program will feature workshops, panels, and networking events, promoting professional development and discussions on contemporary societal issues.
