Description | A mega infrastructure project aimed at halting the stream of waste and raw sewage into the Matanza-Riachuelo River in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The system collects waste through a network of tunnels, pretreats it, disposes solids, and releases pretreated effluent back into the river through a first-of-its-kind riser system inside the outfall tunnel. It is the largest expansion to the city's sewer system in 70 years and will treat up to 2.3 million cubic meters of wastewater per day, expanding sanitation access to 1.5 million additional residents across 14 municipalities. |
