Rideau River Crossing - Confederation Heights to Carleton University - pedestrian/cycling

Design: This project involves design of a new Rideau River crossing which provides a convenient link from Carleton University to the east of the River, including to an existing NCC pathway running along the east side of the Rideau River. The project will also provide the design for a new pathway along the Trillium LRT line from the Confederation Heights employment node and Trillium Line LRT Station and this new river crossing. The project requires completion of the necessary Environmental Assessment (EA) process including environmental inventories are undertaken during specific seasonal time periods as well as undertaking the planning and design elements necessary for the proposed pathway connections. Additional project activities may include but not necessarily be limited to connections between pedestrian/cycling locations and transit system locations. An example may be supporting 40-foot diesel bus acquisition in relation to routes in the proximity of the Rideau River crossing-area works to aid pedestrian and cycling traffic connectivity to the bus network. These activities are intended to further the City’s ability to advance safer community active transportation / transit priorities by leveraging the remaining program funding allocation as much as possible. This is consistent with Council’s strategic direction.
