Description | The project entails the development of Rio de Janeiro Water and Sanitation Bloc 4, comprising of the following municipalities: Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias, Japeri, Mesquita, Nilopolis, Nova Iguacu, Queimados, Sao Joao de Meriti. A consortium of sanitation company Aegea Saneamento and BTG Pactual won block 4. The sponsors payed $500m (R$2,650m) in government fees for the concession rights. The total project cost is $1373 (R$7.2b), of which the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) provided a loan for $144m (R$750m) which also provided funding insurance for the concessionaire. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) also provided a long-term loan of $150m for this initiative, partially mobilized from PROPARCO which will provide a $100m (R$500m) guarantee to IDB Invest. Furthermore, the total project cost be will also be financed with $400m (R$2,050m) simple debenture emission, managed by Banco Itau BBA, Banco BTG Pactual, Banco Bradesco BBI.
