Description | In July 2015, Concesionaria del Sur (Consur), a partnership between Colombian company Latinco S.A. and Ecuadorian company Fopeca S.A., was awarded the contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the 95-km road connecting Río Siete and Huaquillas, located at El Oro. The project included the construction of the road connecting Guayas, El Oro and north Peru. Besides Consur, ten other companies were interested in the bidding process. The bidding criteria and the names of the other bidders were not disclosed. The 30-year private-public partnership (PPP) contract was signed in July 2016, and the sponsor took over the operations in August 2016. The total investment was estimated at US$ 1870 million. Of this total, US$ 665 million was set to be directed to infrastructure investment, while US$ 1,171 million to operation and maintenance expenditures. |
