The Rio Tinto Resolution Copper project is America's largest undeveloped copper deposit located in Arizona. It involves underground block caving mining operations at depths exceeding 5,000 feet, with advanced engineering innovations such as temperature management, shaft rehabilitation, and subsidence mitigation. The project includes a $500 million drilling campaign and a total investment of over $2 billion by Rio Tinto and BHP. It aims to secure domestic copper supply, reduce import dependency, and support national security objectives. The project also involves a 22-mile slurry pipeline for processing and transportation, and extensive environmental and stakeholder engagement including Indigenous rights and land exchange agreements.
