The community league assessed its aged building to make it energy efficient, fully accessible and properly suited to the needs of the community. Building assessments ultimately determined a failed structure 50 yrs ahead of its life expectancy and costs to repair the building is over $2.5 million without gain in efficiencies, program needs or accessibility. The only viable approach is to replace the hall to align with community needs and municipal requirements. With a secured development permit, support from various organisations and access to 552 memberships and over 30 businesses, the league is shovel ready and feasible. Ritchie and adjacent community members will benefit the most from the continued availability of a community hall - a population of over 18,000. The building currently serves as an affordable space for charities and non-profit organisations to provide affordable programs to young families and cultural groups. The new hall will also better serve our houseless residents.
