Description

Description

The Government of India has approved the extension of the River Basin Management Scheme for 2026–2031 with a central outlay of ₹2,183 crore. The scheme focuses on integrated basin-level planning, managing surface water, groundwater, and ecological systems within single hydrological units. It targets strategically sensitive and hydrologically complex basins such as the Indus, Brahmaputra, Barak, and Teesta, and integrates advanced geospatial and hydrological technologies like LiDAR, drone-based surveys, GIS, and modelling tools to prepare high-precision Master Plans and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). The scheme also addresses region-specific challenges including recurrent flooding and erosion in the North East and distinct hydrological conditions in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
