Description | The Fourth Highway Project for Colombia will provide a loan of US $39 million to the Government of Colombia to finance its highway rehabilitation program. Currently, the highway system is inadequate to handle passenger traffic demands. Also, it has not provided reliable road connections from isolated areas to major commercial centers. The project will resolve these problems by: 1) constructing and reconstructing 721 km of roads, including completing the Cali-Medellin-Cartagena road; 2) constructing eight additional sections of road totaling 526 km; 3) providing engineering services for road construction, studies, and final designs for future road works; 4) appraising present highway maintenance operations; and 5) purchasing highway maintenance equipment and spare parts. These improvements will modernize the highway system in order to provide safe and reliable transportation routes for travelers in Colombia. |
