Public Works uses a proactive, long-term approach to maintaining existing roads to minimize costs and traffic disruptions. The county also avoids costly rebuilding projects by keeping the roadway well-maintained. Since many road segments require preservation, projects are ranked by user needs and legal requirements. Roads in Thurston County are preserved either by chipseal or overlay, each used depending on the need.
