Description

Description

The City of Bremerton road preservation project is an annual program where preselected segments of roadway are preserved using either “chip seal’ or “slurry seal”. This treatment is very cost effective and greatly extends the life of the asphalt pavement. RoadPreservationProjectWhat is chip seal? Chip seal is a pavement surface treatment that combines liquid emulsion(asphalt) with fine aggregate(gravel) which is applied to the road surface. This treatment revitalizes the emulsion and fills small cracks in the existing surface. In some cases, small pavement repairs are required prior to the treatment. What roadways will be preserved using this process? Please download the 2023 Road Preservation Project and 5-Year Program Update (PDF) to see the program overview. What should I expect? Chip seal requires a full road closure on two separate days since this is a two-step process. Slurry seal or microsurfacing only requires a one-day closure. On the day(s) of treatment your road will be closed to traffic and on-street parking. Several days prior to the treatment you will be notified with a doorknocker and informational barricades of the treatment schedule. Please download the Chip Seal Process (PPTX) to view the chipseal process. What do I need to do? Plan ahead! Remove all vehicles, boats, trailers, etc. from the street. Avoid outdoor water use if it causes water to flow on to the street. Water will hinder the chip seal curing process.
