Description

Description

The Rural Road Rehabilitation Programme includes the rapid and effective rehabilitation of two rural roads with a total length of around 50 km, including bridges and concrete fords, in the Kalay District in the Sagaing region in western Myanmar, which were destroyed by floods in July and September 2015. This district is one of the most severely damaged by the floods in Myanmar. The aim of the measure is to ensure sustainable, year-round use of the repaired bridges, fords and rural roads by the target group to improve access to markets, schools, health facilities and workplaces. This is intended to contribute to improving the socio-economic living conditions of the rural population in the project region. The target group are the various road users and the rural, often poor, predominantly ethnic minority population living in the catchment area of the roads. The BMZ has pledged a financial contribution of up to EUR 10.0 million for the project.
