There are five components to the project, the first component being civil works for road improvement. This component will focus on rehabilitation of about 51 kilometers of the paved road between Lusaka and Chirundu; and building of a construction material testing center (CMTC). The second component is the engineering and technical services. This component will comprise of technical assistance for carrying out feasibility studies, engineering designs, and supervision services for the rehabilitation and construction works under the project as well as the provision of auditing services to the Project Implementing Entity (NRFA), Road Development Agency (RDA), and Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA). The third component is the institutional development and capacity building. This component will support the implementation of a program of activities aimed at providing support towards the implementation of National Council for Construction (NCC) strategic plan; and the provision of technical assistance and training aimed at supporting the continuous professional development of small scale contractors and consultants by NCC. The fourth component is the road safety. This component will continue to support the activities initiated under first phase, namely: a) establishment of a road safety school park in Lusaka; and b) carrying out media campaigns designed to raise and maintain the road safety awareness among road users. Finally, the fifth component is the mobility improvement. This component is aimed at providing continued support for improving mobility on existing community roads for the poor in order to promote their economic and social development.
