Description
Description | Since the outbreak of the civil war over 10 years ago, Syria has been in a disastrous humanitarian situation. This is accompanied by severe food insecurity and a deterioration in general nutritional diversity in Syria, which is further exacerbated by additional external shocks. The aim of the project is to strengthen the resilience of rural communities in six selected governorates in Syria (Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Sweida, Tartus and rural Damascus) in order to be able to better cope with economic fluctuations and negative environmental influences. The target group of the project is small farmers and vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons. The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is the recipient and sponsor of the project and is implementing several measures as part of the project. On the one hand, small farmers are to be involved in cooperative and community models. On the other hand, strategic value chains for agriculture and livestock farming are to be strengthened and the availability of agriculturally oriented business services is to be increased. Furthermore, measures to reduce or mitigate the risks posed by drought, climate change and food security as well as livestock diseases are to be implemented. |
