Robert Service Way stabilization project to prevent future landslides in the City of Whitehorse, Yukon

Annual landslides on the Whitehorse Escarpment have resulted in partial or full closure of Robert Service Way due to unstable conditions that pose a serious and continuous threat to residents and commuters. Robert Service Way is the main arterial road that connects the Alaska Highway to the southern entrance of downtown Whitehorse. This roadway services approximately 8000-10,000 vehicles each day, in a City whose population is approximately 35,000. RSW is the main route connecting the City to the Whitehorse General Hospital located at 5 Hospital Rd.The Project will deliver a long-term cost-effective solution to mitigate the frequency and impact of future landslides by flattening the slope of Whitehorse Escarpment above RSW and realigning the section of RSW within the high hazard zone further away from the Escarpment and creating a debris barrier.
