Description | The Roberta Phase II landfill is a proposed landfill project in Scott County, Tennessee. The project involves a 24-acre landfill with a permit issued in 2010, which was never constructed. Recently, developers purchased 700 acres of property and applied for re-certification of the permit and a nearby rail transfer station. The Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) denied the Aquatic Resources Alteration Permit (ARAP) required for the project, effectively derailing the landfill's progress. Future efforts to move forward with the landfill will require local approval, which is unlikely to succeed. Legislation has been filed to permanently stop the landfill by classifying the Big South Fork River as a scenic river and prohibiting landfills in Scott County. |
