Description

Description

The Rock Creek Park Development Access Road is a 2.6-mile, four-lane connecting highway beginning at US Route 119 near its intersection with WV 3 outside Danville in Boone County, southwest West Virginia. The access road will connect to the future 12,000-acre Rock Creek Development Park on the site of the former Hobet Mine property. In January 2016, the Governor of West Virginia announced plans to develop the site as a mixed-use development project supporting residential, commercial, industrial, recreational, and educational activities. The Rock Creek Development Park itself is situated in Boone and Lincoln Counties within 25 miles of I-77, I-79, I-64, and Charleston, the state capital. The site has freight rail service operated by CSX, as well as a large power grid and natural gas lines. The state is currently promoting industrial development on the site. In addition to the access road construction, extensions to existing utilities and ongoing master planning were underway in 2017. The project is financed with federal funds, of which 61 percent are GARVEEs issued in December 2016.
