Description | The overall objective is to promote and protect the rights of Roma victims of human rights violations and discrimination by raising society’s and stakeholders’ awareness, enhancing implementation of non-discrimination legislation and empowering Roma to seek legal remedies, in Hungary and Serbia Activities: - Research on discrimination against the Roma and their access to justice - Training legal professionals on anti-discrimination law/minority rights - Training Roma-led CSO on anti-discrimination law/legal remedies - Training Roma mediators and activists on anti-discrimination/minority law/legal remedies - Provide legal aid advice to community via outreach - Providing/brokering legal assistance before the national equality body -Advocacy to encourage implementation and/or adoption of anti-discrimination legislation and policies - Lessons learned report and exchange of experience between partner CSOs Beneficiaries -30 Roma mediators benefit from training -30 Roma-led CSO staff benefit from training -30 attorneys benefit from training -80 Roma clients benefit from legal advice -12 Roma clients cases referred to national equality bodies -Roma communities increase awareness of discrimination and legal advice Results -Enhanced knowledge regarding legal remedies to discrimination and access to justice of the Roma -Strengthened capacity and willingness of legal practitioners to provide legal aid advice and representation for Roma and challenge discrimination incidents and patterns -Strengthened capacity of Roma-led NGOs to provide Roma community with information about anti-discrimination law and available legal remedies -Increased access to justice of the Roma community in discrimination cases and human rights violations Deliverables 1 baseline report 2 conferences 6 trainings 3 training materials 80 instances of legal advice 12 discrimination cases to the equality body 10 advocacy meetings 2 shadow reports 1 lessons learned report 2 conference |
