Description | The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) is Bangladesh's first nuclear power facility consisting of two VVER-1200 reactors with a combined capacity of 2,400 megawatts. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted a Pre-Operational Safety Review Team (Pre-OSART) mission recommending improvements in fire prevention and response, operational supervision, and equipment preservation ahead of the commercial launch of Unit-1. The plant is located in Pabna on the banks of the Padma River and is owned by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and operated by Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL). Construction of Unit-1 began in November 2017, with fresh fuel loading scheduled for early November 2025 and full production expected approximately 11 months after commissioning. |
