Description | The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant located on the banks of the Padma river in western Bangladesh. It consists of two Russian-designed reactors with a total capacity of 2.4 gigawatts, expected to supply up to 15% of the country's electricity demand. The project aims to reduce Bangladesh's reliance on fossil fuels and enhance energy security. The plant is expected to be fully completed by 2028, with the first reactor operational by early 2027 and the second following a year later. The project cost is approximately $12.65 billion under the main contract with Russian state-owned company Rosatom. |
