Rostov-on-Don was the Southern Federal District of Russia, located on the Don River. The Don River that the city was named for was a major shipping lane connecting southwestern Russia with regions to the north, and Rostov-on-Don was an important river port in both passenger-oriented and industrial shipping. With such a good geographical position, the city grew rapidly. Eurasian Water Partnership Ltd was a national private operator of water and wastewater infrastructure. EWP had two water and wastewater utilities under management control in cities of Omsk and Rostov-on-Don with total population of 2.3 million inhabitants. The company reportedly invested over $17 million (500 million RUR) for the rehabilitation and development of the water and wastewater infrastructure in the two cities by the end of 2005. http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/41/43/35653593.pdf The estimated investment commitments for 2005-06 were 1.1 billion Russia Rubles |
