Rourke Bridge Replacement Project

The project involves replacing the aging Rourke Bridge in Lowell, Massachusetts with a new four-lane bridge across the Merrimack River. The new bridge will have six spans, seven girders, bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, stormwater infrastructure improvements, highway lighting, landscaping, and utility relocations. The bridge will have a 75-year service life and be three times as wide as the existing two-lane bridge. Construction will start on the north side of the river and proceed south, with the existing bridge remaining open until the new one is completed and then demolished.
