Roussel explains that he has created a musical machine, but it does not work well. He then asks Cantarel, as an inventor and expert in mechanisms, to help him repair it and make it work again. For Cantarel, a strange adventure begins. The walls of his mansion begin to bend, to move, to change shapes and colors. Cantarel starts searching for the missing pieces of Roussel's music box on a journey through Roussel’s life. From visiting his family to the theater where one of his plays is being performed, from talking to his shrink, his assistant, to finally meeting him in Palermo. In each environment he visits, Cantarel receives a phone call from Roussel who guides him through the journey by giving him clues and directions. In each of these levels, Cantarel manages to get his hands on an object that completes the central machine, gradually revealing a piece of music.
