Route 207 Resiliency

The proposed project aims to realign a section of Route 207, the Lawrencetown Road, in Halifax Regional Municipality to protect it from the impact of storm surge and sea level rise resulting from climate change. The current location of the road adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean has caused significant damage to the road during storm events, making it impassable and causing economic damage to nearby communities. The project involves rebuilding a 500m section of the road further away from the coast and naturalizing the existing section. The new alignment will ensure the road remains open during storm events, maintain access to recreational facilities, and reduce the need for costly repairs. The realignment starts at the top of the hill near Macdonald Tea House and concludes just prior to the western Lawrencetown Beach Entrance, with a reduction in the slope of the road.
