Route 37 Bridge Demolition and Rehabilitation Project

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is conducting phased demolition of the bridge carrying Route 37 over Power Road in Cranston. Traffic lanes on Route 37 west will be shifted to the left to create a work zone for the demolition. About a month later, the east lanes will also be shifted to create a work zone, with westbound traffic returning to original lanes. This bridge removal is part of a larger $142.8 million project to replace and rehabilitate six bridges on Route 37 over roads, arterials, and rail lines. RIDOT determined the bridge is surplus and removing it saves significant construction and maintenance costs.
