Description | About 37 miles of old Route 66 in McLean County, Illinois, has been repurposed as the Constitution Trail and the Route 66 Trail, a well-paved and maintained asphalted sidewalk stretching from Chenoa to Atlanta. The Constitution Trail began as a joint project between the city of Bloomington and the Town of Normal, following the old Illinois Central Gulf Railroad through both cities. The trail is still growing throughout the region with amenities such as drinking fountains, signage, benches, landscaping, and shelters. Litchfield in southern Illinois has completed its portion of the trail as a hiking and biking path of about 6.6 miles. The trail is a work in progress with some portions requiring cyclists to travel on roads with live traffic. |
